What You should know about Refrigerant Compressors

04:19 By

Whether you run a supermarket or kitchen or work in a lab, you employ the use of refrigeration systems to keep your items at precise temperatures. An essential part of the refrigerator is the compressor and each device has its compressor but many people do not know what exactly it is the compressor does.

What happens inside a refrigerator?

The refrigerant is pressurized and heated within the compressor. It then leaves the compressor and enters the condenser. It then moves into tubes which are then pushed out by a fan and cool air is released.

Heat gets transferred inside the tubing and the hot vapor refrigerant turns into a liquid and back into the condenser and turns into liquid. Pressure is maintained inside and reduced on the outlet side.

The refrigerant then achieves low pressure and enters the evaporation stage where the heat is absorbed and reduces the temperature and the refrigerant is a cold vapor again and enters the condenser again.

This shows how the compressor is vital. It begins the flow of refrigerant and controls temperature to keep refrigeration systems working.

Types of compressors:

Compressor manufacturers make a variety of industrial compressors that you should know about.

1.    Industrial Reciprocating Compressor

It is the simplest type which is also very reliable and durable. They are also known as piston pumps as they utilize a piston and rod to propel the refrigerant through the system. This is commonly used in commercial refrigerators.

It also goes by the name of semi-hermetic in which the encasement is airtight. This is widely used in car engines.

2.    Scroll Compressors

This type of compressor uses two scrolls, one to create rotating motion and the other is fixed. They are made of less moving parts which makes them more durable and less prone to breakdowns and they conserve energy.

3.    Screw Compressors

Also referred to as the rotary compressor, it works with a rotary screw moving in a steady sweeping movement hence allowing the system to work consistently without surges in flow. It is easily lubricated which is why there is less friction compared to reciprocating compressors. These are most popular in commercial and industrial refrigeration processes.

4.    Inverter Compressor

This compressor is a type of gas compressor which employs a variable frequency drive to regulate motor speed and an inverter to generate pressure. This maintains the cooling capacity to match the necessary cooling need.

5.    Centrifugal Compressor

It is a type of rotary compressor that can be found in many sizes.

It increases the pressure of the refrigerant by applying energy as the gas flows. They are used in industries like chemical manufacturers, pharmaceuticals, and wastewater treatment facilities.

What to Look for When Buying Compressors

Purchasing a good quality commercial compressor is important or the maintenance can cost you a lot. Here are a few tips on what to look out for in compressors.

1.    The Type

Each of the compressor types has a  different design and working principle. You need to research the type of compressor that suits your needs and how durable it is.

2.    Energy Consumption

Due to evolving technology, energy-saving compressors have begun production. Current models take up a lot of power so you can look for alternate options which are more efficient and environmentally friendly.

3.    Levels of Noise

These commercial refrigerators have a lot of noise-making components but many companies have found a way to get reduced noise. Though it is not completely gone, it is a necessary by-product but many models can be found with minimal noise.

4.    Cooling Capacity

Different refrigerators have different capacities for the cooling system but sometimes the range of the compressor and the refrigerator do not match. For maximum performance, match the compressor model with the capacity of the refrigerating unit. Look for its design, size, and power and this will help it run for many years.

If you purchase from a good manufacturer of compressors in Pakistan, you will not have to worry about their performance and efficiency. Most issues in a commercial refrigerator do not originate in the compressor. Although maintenance is inevitable and it may need to be replaced if it has been in service too long because the entire cooling and heating system depends on the compressor and without it, the whole process would not even begin.
